Looking ahead to the week of February 17

We recently visited Ms. Sease to learn more about note-taking and essay writing.

Hello, families!  I hope you all enjoyed your weekend!

Looking ahead:  The children will working on geometry (lessons 11-5, 11-6, 11-9).  Please continue to encourage your child to practice his/her facts every day!  Students will continue to have mixed operation quizzes throughout the rest of the school year.  As historians, students will finish their American Revolution unit and test Thursday, February 20. In reading, students will wrap up their American Revolution biographies and create a product to showcase what they learned about their hero/heroine. Students will also continue preparing for the PASS writing test, which is in March.  They will revisit reference materials like dictionaries, thesauri, etc.  Students will receive a new homework packet/reading log this Friday.  I know they have a long weekend, so I am looking to be more lenient on them.  I will encourage the children to do what they can over the next week!
*Please note, some lessons are subject to change dates, due to inclement weather days.

Random Acts of Kindness Week (from Mrs. Spangler):  It's our school-wide "Random Acts of Kindness Week." In order to show awareness of this week and to show off our Bookman Road Spirit, we will be having a few spirit days.
*Please see the schedule under the "Important Dates" section, if you would like to have your child participate!

A note from fourth grade, regarding its charity:  We will be collecting the non-perishable food items as well as any monetary donation  with the goal of being able to fill 30 “backpack” bags for distribution, which will help kids around South Carolina.  We cannot accomplish our mission without your help.
*Please see their write-up in this week's "Beacon" for more information.

Valentines Day UPDATE:  Students will have school Friday, February 14, in order to make up one of the snow days! Since students will be at school, our administration has given each grade level the opportunity to choose whether or not to allow students to pass out Valentines.  Third grade will take this opportunity to let students pass out cards and/or a healthy snack (No sweets!), stickers, pencils at the end of the day!  If your child chooses to bring cards Friday, February 14, please do not have your child address the cards "TO" individual classmates.  Please have your child only fill in the "FROM" part of the card, as this makes the delivery much quicker and easier!  Also, please remember that if your child brings cards in, there must be one card for each classmate.  We have 19 students in our class.  Please have your child refrain from passing out cards to students in other classes, as this will need to be done outside of school, so that students do not disrupt teaching and learning time.  Be sure to check out this friendly reminder from our Health Advisory Committee:

Dear Bookman Family,

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, we want to take this opportunity to review our policies and procedures regarding this day. We will not be celebrating this holiday in school; this includes any "party" type of celebrations or treat bags. Classroom snack choices, for those teachers who allow them, will continue to follow our acceptable snack guidelines which are found in your child's agenda book and on our website. Teachers are asked to ensure adherence to these guidelines during the day. We appreciate your understanding, acceptance and support of these policies.

Sincerely,
Your Bookman Road Health Advisory Committee
Report Cards:  Please be sure to sign and return your child's report card cover, as soon as possible!  You may keep the report card.

Half-day:  Students will have a half-day Thursday, February 13.  Please make sure you send a note, if your child's mode of transportation changes!

I hope you all have wonderful week!  Stay warm!  Thank you again for all of your support!
