Blinky's Buddy Run:  You guys are amazing!  We only have a few days left for friends and family to donate to our Blinky's Buddy Run!  All pledges are made online at Blinky's Buddy Run.  Once you're there, remember to click on the search bar (search for participant).  You can type in your child's name and visit their individual online pledge page.  Please share your pledge pages with family and friends through social media and email!  Anyone can donate!

Calling all rainboots:  After visiting Camp Discovery during a recent "Being There Experience," we saw a need for rainboots!  The children that visit Camp Discovery are immersed in different ecosystems... even a creek!  We would love to collect any rainboots that have outgrown your family, so they can be used by learners that visit in the future!  Please send them in throughout the month of November, and we will make sure they get to Camp Discovery!

Veterans Day slideshow submission:  Please complete the form attached to this link, if you would like your veterans' photos included in our school's slideshow!  Veterans Day submission   Also, be sure to join us Friday, November 8, for our special presentation at 8:15!

Who's reading our blog:  Ask your child about their favorite European explorer we've studied.  What's one fact they found to be most interesting about their explorer?  Send the fact in the subject line of an email and share it with me!

Thank you again for all of your support!  Have an amazing weekend with your kids!

A message from Ms. Stidham:  My name is Jessica Stidham and I am from Winnsboro, South Carolina. I am a senior at Newberry College, studying to become an Elementary Education Teacher. I found my passion for teaching through returning to my high school alma mater, Richard Winn Academy, to coach basketball and substitute various grade levels. Since then, it has been an amazing journey expanding my knowledge on education so that I may become the best teacher for my future students.

Homework:  Students will NOT receive a new homework sheet this Thursday (so they may focus on their study guides next week)!  Thank you for your flexibility!

"Fill the Boot!":  Kindergarten is trying to "fill the boot!"  If you have any extra change or dollars that you would like to donate to help local firefighters, please have your child bring in the money during the month of October!

Looking ahead to next week:  As historians, students will be learning about European exploration in South Carolina.  As mathematicians, the children will learn about telling time to the nearest minute.  It is a short unit, so students will receive a study guide on Monday and it will be due Thursday!  They'll have their 3s multiplication quiz, as well!  Keep practicing those facts!  Be sure to check out our math family letter below (it's an EngageNY unit, so students will not be using Envision).  In reading, students will study text features.  As writers, they will learn about capitalization.  Students will be working on our opinion writing unit.

Who's reading our blog:  If you've read the blog, please send Ms. Stidham a welcome message, via my email address!  We are so happy to have her with us!

Thank you again for all of your support!  Have an amazing, long weekend with your kids!

Looking ahead to the week of October 7 (Art)

We appreciate everyone, who was able to make it to Cici's Pizza Night!  What a great turnout for our school!

Hello, families!

LIFESKILL of the week:  The LIFESKILL of the week is cooperation!  Discuss examples of cooperation with your child and celebrate moments of using this LIFESKILL while at school, home and out and about in the community.

Envision textbooks:  If you would like to keep your child's Envision textbook at home till the end of the school year, please let me know.  The children only use their workbook in class, but the textbook may be used as a resource when reviewing with your child at home.  Just send me an email and I'll pull your child's book!  You can always access your child's textbook online, using your child's password sheet.  Also, after the last lesson of each unit, students will bring home the workbook pages they've used in class.  Not all of the problems may be completed on each page, because we may do only half and then do more work on slates during small group rotations.  Your child is welcome to use the unsolved problems, as extra practice, in preparation for the unit tests!

Homework reminder:  Students have been issued math and science study guides, back-to-back, so we will hold off issuing a homework sheet October 3, so students will have ample time to complete their study guides and prepare for the tests.  Thank you for your flexibility.  Students will receive a new homework sheet October 10.

United Way campaign:  Just a reminder that students are also welcome to donate spare change from September 30 - October 4.  We will celebrate all of our donations toward United Way with a pajama day October 4.  Appropriate pajamas for school and shoes will be required.  Thank you for your donations!

Looking ahead to next week:  As scientists, students will wrap up their ecosystems unit.  As mathematicians, the children will dive into their first unit on multiplication toward the end of the week.  It is a short unit, but go ahead and start practicing those multiplication facts!  They'll have their first individual multiplication quiz on the 1s tables next week!  Be sure to check out our Topic 4 family letter below.  In reading, students will look at CLOSE reading passages and learn how to find evidence when analyzing texts.  As writers, they will learn about verb tenses, as well as, work on Veterans Day letters of appreciation, which will be handed out at our military breakfast, as a part of our grade level service.

Who's reading the blog?  See if you can solve this Rebus puzzle and email Mrs. West with your best guess in the subject line!

Thank you again for all of your support!  You're the best!
