Looking ahead to the week of May 2

Students enjoyed sending our Special Olympians off with a cheer!

Hi, families!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Looking ahead:  Students will be quizzed on their individual multiplication tables these next two weeks, with a culminating mixed multiplication test at the end of the unit.  Please have your child practice his/her facts every day!  As historians, students will be learning about the changes, which took place in South Carolina, during the 19th and 20th centuries.  As scientists, they will kick off their electricity and magnetism unit.  As readers and writers, students will begin an in-depth look at careers in South Carolina.  They will research careers in the different regions of our state and enjoy guest speakers (a big thanks to Mrs. Turner for setting up our guest speakers!).  Students will continue working on their career project the next few weeks, and we hope to celebrate by having a career fair at the end of the unit.  Students will also wrap up their cursive handwriting study for the year.

SC Ready testing reminders:  Thank you again to all of the families, who donated items to make testing a little "sweeter" next week!  We appreciate your kindness!  As we head into testing, we will have a slight schedule change.  Students will eat at 12:27, April 26 - 28... just in case you plan on joining your child for lunch!  Please remember to have your child get a good night's sleep, eat a filling breakfast, and be to school on time during testing week!  Students will not have a homework packet or reading log to complete during the week of testing!  There will also be no tests or quizzes administered the week of state-wide testing.  Please be sure to check out our "Wish Wall," to write an encouraging message to our class.

Homework:  Students will receive a new homework packet Friday, April 29.  It will be due Friday, May 6.

Thank you again for all that you do! Have a great week!

Looking ahead to the week of April 18

Students enjoyed a geometry scavenger hunt around the school!  They looked for examples of parallel lines, intersecting lines, right angles, acute angles, and obtuse angles!

The children truly enjoyed their Olympics-themed Field Day!  Thank you to all of the volunteers, who made it possible!

Hi, families!  I hope you all had a great weekend!

Looking ahead:  In math, students will wrap up their study on geometry. The children will also begin a review of math, in preparation for the SC Ready Test.  They will have double math lessons this week, in an effort to wrap up our math units, before testing at the end of April.  Students will not have a science or social studies unit this week.  Please remind your child to practice his/her multiplication facts daily!  Students will continue their mixed multiplication quizzes throughout the remainder of the school year.  They will also retake any multiplication quizzes necessary to obtain their trail mix ingredients for our trail mix celebration in the spring.   As readers, students will revisit cold reads and learn about test-taking strategies.  As writers, the children will revisit suffixes and writing prompts.

Report Cards:  Please be sure to sign and return just the report card cover, as soon as possible!  This is a good time to look over your child's report card with him/her and set goals for the last nine weeks!

SC Ready reminder:  Thank you all for considering to donate breakfast items, snacks, and juice to our class during the week of testing.  Please see the letter that went home in last week's communication folder from our Homeroom Mom, Mrs. Turner, if you'd like to donate!

Also, the following letter went home in last week's folder, too!  Be sure to read over it to learn more about testing week.

Have a wonderful week and thank you again for all that you do!

Field Day:  Field Day is Friday, April 8!  Please be sure your child dresses appropriately for the weather and wears tennis shoes.  If you would like your child to wear sunscreen, please make sure you apply it at home.  Do not send it to school with your child.  Also, your child may bring a bottle of water from home to enjoy, while doing various activities outside.  Please be sure to write his/her name on it with a permanent marker.  Volunteers make Field Day possible, so if you are able to volunteer, please contact Mr. Schirmer.

Have a wonderful week and thank you again for all that you do!
