Looking ahead to the week of January 7 (2nd PE)


Have a safe and wonderful winter break with your sweet families!  We look forward to seeing the kids back Monday, January 7!




Students are enjoying their rock investigations!  They're learning a lot about rock properties!






Hi, families! 

Communication folders:  Students will not receive a communication folder this week.  The will receive their next communication folder Thursday, January 10!  There will be a lot of important information going home that day!

Read-In:  Students are welcome to bring a blanket and a fun book from home to read during our "Read-In" Thursday, December 20!  They'll be digging into their good books before our winter party in the afternoon!


Half day:  Students have a half day Friday, December 21.  If your child's transportation changes, please be sure to send a note!  Also, lunch will be served.  There will be NO BREAKERS offered Friday, December 21, after school.


PTO presentation letter:  Please be on the look out for a letter going home in your child's communication folder Thursday, January 10, regarding our upcoming PTO performance.  Please sign and return the letter, as soon as possible!  Students will be singing Monday, January 28.  Students may be dropped off in the music room at 6:45.  They are asked to wear jeans and a white shirt.

Diamond Del:  A permission brochure will be going home with your child Thursday, January 10.  Please sign and return the form, as soon as possible!  Your child may bring money to purchase items mentioned in the brochure from Diamond Del Wednesday, January 16, if you'd like.  The "Being Here Experience" payment covered Diamond Del's visit.


Looking ahead to next week:  As scientists, students will continue studying rocks and their properties.  As mathematicians, they will learn about fractions.  We will be using the Engage New York curriculum for this unit, so please see the family letter below.   As readers, the children will look into figurative language.   As writers, they will learn about commas and quotation marks, as well as, continuing their informational essays.  They will also be learning how to complete a text-dependent analysis.

Looking ahead to the week of December 17 (STEM)

Fossil Frank visited our school!  Students enjoyed learning about fossils.  They even got to do a little fossil hunting of their own!

 








Students completed the Hour of Code!  They're professional coders now.  Be sure to ask them about the Hour of Code!




Surprise!  The Rotary Club visited our class and handed out dictionaries to each child!


Thank you so much for your sweet congratulatory emails!  It was an honor being selected as the 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year for Bookman Road!  I was so happy to be surrounded by my sweet kiddos!

LIFESKILL of the week:  The LIFESKILL of the week is curiosity!  Discuss examples of curiosity with your child and celebrate moments of using this LIFESKILL while at school, home, and out and about in the community. 

Homework:  Students will not receive a new homework sheet for the week of December 17!  Happy almost winter break, everyone!  (Keep in mind, they have a math study guide due Tuesday, December 18, though!)

Winter celebration:  Please take a look at the letter below from our Homeroom Moms, Mrs. Edwards and Mrs. Morrison, regarding our upcoming winter celebration!  A copy of the letter was sent home last week in your child's communication folder!  Thank you, in advance, for helping make this celebration possible!

Looking ahead to next week:  As scientists, students will continue learning about rocks and their properties through various hands-on activities.  As mathematicians, they will continue learning about the relationship between multiplication and division.  We will be using the Envision curriculum for this unit, so please see the family letter below. As readers, the children will enjoy creating their own books, which will be professionally published in the spring.  As writers, they will continue working on their informational essays.

Looking ahead to the week of December 10 (2nd PE)

LIFESKILL of the week:  The LIFESKILL of the week is caring!  Discuss examples of caring with your child and celebrate moments of using this LIFESKILL while at school, home, and out and about in the community.

December 6 and 7:  I will be out of the classroom the afternoon of December 6 and all day December 7.  Please contact the office directly, if you have a message for your child, since I will not be able to check my email.  Thank you for your flexibility!

Afterschool activities:  Just a friendly reminder that I love to support the kids outside of school!  Please let me know of any sports, dance, etc. activities that are coming up!  I'll always do my best to make one! 

Looking ahead to next week:  As scientists, students will begin learning about different types of rocks through various simulations.  As mathematicians, they will continue learning about the relationship between multiplication and division.  We will be using the Envision curriculum for this unit, so please see the family letter below. As readers, the children will learn about making inferences through our Treasures series.  As writers, they will continue working on their informational essays and revisit the elements of a compound sentence by studying a mentor sentence.
