Looking ahead to the week of January 2 (Week A)

Students received a visit from the Rotary Club this week.  The club passed along dictionaries to every student in third grade!




Hi, families! I hope you all had a great week!  I know the kids are excited about Winter Break!  Be sure to continue your child to do his/her personal best, as we move forward in the third grade year!

LIFESKILL of the week:  Flexibility - Encourage your child to celebrate ways of showing flexibility!

Diamond Del:  A permission brochure went home with your child Thursday, December 8.  Please sign and return the form, as soon as possible!  Your child may bring money to purchase items mentioned in the brochure from Diamond Del Thursday, January 5, if you'd like.  The "Being Here Experience" payment covered Diamond Del's visit, so there is no fee.

Communication folders and homework before Winter Break:  Students will not receive a communication folder Thursday, December 15.  Students will also not be issued a homework packet December 16.  They will not receive their next homework packet till January 6.  

Looking ahead to next week:  As scientists, students wrap up their rocks and minerals unit.  As mathematicians, they will finish studying the relationship between multiplication and division.  We will be using the Envision curriculum for this unit, so please see the family letter below. As readers, the children will look at cold reads and locating information.   As writers, they will be introduced to text-dependent analysis.

Winter celebration:  Our winter party is almost here!  Please join us Friday, December 16, 12:15 - 1:30!  Check out the letter from our homeroom mom, Ms. Miles below for ways you can help!  Please also remember, if you would like your child to go home early Friday after our party, be sure to sign him/her out from the front office first.  The office will then call your child down for dismissal.

Looking ahead to the week of December 12 (Week B)

Students enjoyed a visit from Fossil Frank!  They learned the ways fossils are formed and that they are found in sedimentary rocks.  They even did a little fossil hunting on their own!

Holiday Shoppe:  Students will be previewing the Holiday Shoppe Friday, December 9.  They will have the opportunity to shop  Tuesday, December 13.  If you would like to have your child shop, please send money with your child Tuesday.  He/she will be responsible for holding on to any money for the Holiday Shoppe.  

Looking ahead to next week:  As scientists, students will learn about different tests geologists perform, in order to determine types of rocks.  As mathematicians, they will continue learning about the relationship between multiplication and division.  We will be using the Envision curriculum for this unit, so please see the family letter below. As readers, the children will look at locating text evidence.   As writers, they will share their expository pieces and learn about spelling patterns.  Students will also be taking their second grade high frequency word spelling post-test.

Looking ahead to the week of December 5 (Week A)


Students enjoyed celebrating the importance of physical education and a healthy lifestyle at our annual Lapathon!  Shout out to all of you, who collected donations to go toward our PE program.




Hi, families! I hope you all had a wonderful fall/Thanksgiving break!

LIFESKILL of the week:  Pride - Encourage your child to celebrate ways of showing pride!

Half day:  Students will have a half day Friday, December 2.  Lunch will be served.  Students will be dismissed at 11:30.  Please send a note or call the office, if your child's transportation changes. 

Third grade Friends and Family lunch:  Be sure to join us Thursday, December 8, at 11:35 in the Seaside Cafe for Friends and Family lunch!

Looking ahead to next week:  As scientists, students will learn about rock properties through mock rock investigations.  As mathematicians, they will continue learning about the relationship between multiplication and division.  We will be using the Envision curriculum for this unit, so please see the family letter below. As readers, revisit our Treasures series and enjoy Stone Soup, while focusing on inferencing.  As writers, they will wrap up their expository writing and study the use of quotation marks in writing.
