Looking ahead to the week of March 5 (Week A)

Students enjoyed collaborating with Mrs. Sharp's class to complete investigations about matter.

We are excited about our Boosterthon fundraiser!  Are you?  Through March 9, we are collected pledges for our Fun Run.  Be sure to log on to funrun.com to make your donation today!  Thank you for supporting BRES!

Hi, families! I hope you all are having a great week!

A message from fourth grade:  Please see the flyer below, regarding their grade level charity.

Looking ahead to next week:  As scientists, students will wrap up their heat and matter unit.  They will jump into their next social studies unit.  It is all about the antebellum period.  They will not take a traditional test with this unit, because it's so short.  Instead, they will complete daily questions in class.  As mathematicians, they will learn about three-dimensional shapes and test on their geometry unit.  We will use Envision (Topic 11) for this unit.  Please check out the family letter below.  As readers, students will discuss nonfiction text structures.  As writers, they'll wrap up their study of idioms, metaphors, and personification.  They will independently write an opinion essay, as well.

Thank you again for all of your support!  Have a great weekend!

Looking ahead to the week of February 26 (Week B)

Students enjoyed their "Being There Experience" at the State House.  They loved seeing where the legislative and executive branches work to write and carry out laws.

Hi, families! I hope you all are having a great week and enjoying the warm weather!

A message from fourth grade:  Please see the flyer below, regarding their grade level charity.

Looking ahead to next week:  As scientists, students will continue learning about heat and matter.  As mathematicians, they will learn about angles, polygons, and ways in which they can combine shapes to make new ones.  We will use Envision (Topic 11) for this unit.  Please check out the family letter below.  As readers, students will discuss using context clues.  As writers, they'll learn about the use of idioms, metaphors, and personification in writing.  They will also continue working on an opinion piece with a partner.

Heroes and Heroines:  The kids enjoyed learning about Revolutionary heroes and heroines during our biography study.  Be sure to check out their presentations below!

Thank you again for all of your support!  Have a great weekend!

Looking ahead to the week of February 19 (Week A)

Students are celebrating acts of kindness during "Kindness Week."  They contributed to our kindness wall, by writing one way they've shown kindness to others and one way someone has show kindness to them.  You can check out their kindness hearts on D-hall.

Students read American Revolutionary biographies.  They'll collaborate to make Google presentations for their South Carolina heroes and heroines.

Hi, families! I hope you all are having a great week!

Half-day:  Students will have a half day Friday, February 16.  They will be served lunch, then dismiss at 11:30.  If your child's mode of transportation changes, please be sure to send a note or call the front office.

State House trip:  We will be visiting the State House Tuesday, February 20.  Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather and wears tennis shoes.  Also, please make sure to send a lunch with your child, if that is the option you chose on his/her permission form.

A message from fourth grade:  Please see the flyer below, regarding their grade level charity.

Looking ahead to next week:  As historians, students will wrap up their government study and enjoy a trip to the State House.  They'll also kick off their new science unit, heat and matter.  As mathematicians, they will learn how to measure to the nearest inch, half-inch, and quarter-inch.  We will not be using Engage New York or Envision for this unit, but you can help your child by having him/her measure various objects around the house to the nearest aforementioned inches.  As readers, students will study how illustrations explain and enhance the mood, setting, and characters of a story.  As writers, they'll learn about the use of apostrophes and how to write an opinion piece.

Thank you again for all of your support!  Have a great weekend!

Looking ahead to the week of February 12 (Week B)

We enjoyed visits from some of our BookMEN!  Their read alouds were a great way to celebrate the 100th day of school!

Hi, families! I hope you all are having a great week!

Half-day:  Students will have a half day Friday, February 16.  They will be served lunch, then dismiss at 11:30.  If your child's mode of transportation changes, please be sure to send a note or call the front office.

Responsibility:  Since we have officially kicked off the third nine weeks, students will no longer be reminded to turn in assignments.  They will be responsible for following procedures and turning in assignments, in a timely manner.  Assignments that are not turned in will be marked "missing" in PowerSchool.  They are on the down hill slope to fourth grade, so we are hoping to better prepare them for the expectations in the upper grades.

Valentine's Day:  As you know, Valentine's Day is Wednesday, February 14.  Since we only have two celebrations a year (winter and end-of-the-year), we will not have a party.  Students may bring in Valentine's Day cards for each of their classmates (but it's not a requirement!).  We have 19 students in our class.  Please do not write a name in the "to" section on the card.  Doing so, allows us to pass out the cards in a more efficient manner.  Also, please do not send in any unhealthy items.  You can review our Health Committee recommendations for healthy snacks on last week's blog post.

Looking ahead to next week:  As historians, students will learn about the affects of the American Revolution on the "newly," independent colonies, as well as, the three branches of government.  As mathematicians, they will wrap up the second half of our fraction module.  We will be using the Engage New York curriculum for this unit, so please see the family letter below.  As readers and writers, students will work together, in small groups or partnerships, to create a Google slide presentation for the Revolutionary hero or heroine.

Thank you again for all of your support!  Have a great weekend!
