Looking ahead to the week of February 12 (Week B)

We enjoyed visits from some of our BookMEN!  Their read alouds were a great way to celebrate the 100th day of school!

Hi, families! I hope you all are having a great week!

Half-day:  Students will have a half day Friday, February 16.  They will be served lunch, then dismiss at 11:30.  If your child's mode of transportation changes, please be sure to send a note or call the front office.

Responsibility:  Since we have officially kicked off the third nine weeks, students will no longer be reminded to turn in assignments.  They will be responsible for following procedures and turning in assignments, in a timely manner.  Assignments that are not turned in will be marked "missing" in PowerSchool.  They are on the down hill slope to fourth grade, so we are hoping to better prepare them for the expectations in the upper grades.

Valentine's Day:  As you know, Valentine's Day is Wednesday, February 14.  Since we only have two celebrations a year (winter and end-of-the-year), we will not have a party.  Students may bring in Valentine's Day cards for each of their classmates (but it's not a requirement!).  We have 19 students in our class.  Please do not write a name in the "to" section on the card.  Doing so, allows us to pass out the cards in a more efficient manner.  Also, please do not send in any unhealthy items.  You can review our Health Committee recommendations for healthy snacks on last week's blog post.

Looking ahead to next week:  As historians, students will learn about the affects of the American Revolution on the "newly," independent colonies, as well as, the three branches of government.  As mathematicians, they will wrap up the second half of our fraction module.  We will be using the Engage New York curriculum for this unit, so please see the family letter below.  As readers and writers, students will work together, in small groups or partnerships, to create a Google slide presentation for the Revolutionary hero or heroine.

Thank you again for all of your support!  Have a great weekend!
