Looking ahead to the week of November 28 (Week B)

Students learned ways humans affect the environment!  They discussed how people can reduce, reuse, and recycle every day items, as a way of helping conserve our natural resources.  They reused items like milk cartons, tape, and glue sticks, to create new inventions.

LIFESKILL of the week:  Courage - Encourage your child to celebrate ways of showing courage!

American Education Week:   Thank you all so much for your sweet words of support and appreciation during American Education Week!  They meant the world to me! 

Half day:  Students will have a half day Friday, December 2.  Lunch will be served.  Students will be dismissed at 11:30.  Please send a note or call the office, if your child's transportation changes. 

Homework:  A new homework packet was not distributed Friday, November 18.  Students will not have a homework packet the week of November 21 - Happy fall break!  Students will receive their next homework packet Monday, November 28.  It will be due Friday, December 2.

Palmetto Pride:  A reminder from Mrs. King and Ms. Burkett - 

Communication folders:  Communication folders will not go home the week of November 21.  Students will receive their communication folders Thursday, December 1.

Looking ahead to next week:  As scientists, students will learn about fossils with Fossil Frank.  They will test on the Earth features' unit Tuesday, November 29.  A study guide went home Monday, November 21 and is due Monday, November 28.  Students will then kick off a study about the three types of rocks and will enjoy in-class simulations of each type of rock.  As mathematicians, they will start learning about division.  We will be using the Envision curriculum for this unit, so please see the family letter below. As readers, students will learn about character traits and how they change through the course of a story.  As writers, they will revisit expository writing and learn about commas.

Looking ahead to the week of November 21 (Week A)

Students enjoyed celebrating veterans at PTO's breakfast, our chorus' program, and a special parade.  We thank all of our active military members and veterans!




Mr. Finklea visited our school and told us all about his life, as an author!

Students learned about the Distributive Property of Multiplication and even made a human array example of how we can use the property to help us with multiplication!

Impact Aid Forms:  Please complete and sign the green Impact Aid form going home in your child's communication folder Thursday.  Return these forms, as soon as possible!

Lapathon:  Please support our physical education program!  This year, any classroom that donates a total of $200 or above will receive a smoothie making party from Mr. Schirmer.  Also, the classroom that donates the most money will receive an extra PE one morning.

Students will be collecting items that are needed for kids just like them who come into the emergency department. There is a great need for several items. We will be collecting:
  • coloring books
  • crayons/markers
  • New underwear in various sizes
  • New socks
If you are able to, please consider donating and asking your family and friends to donate. Representatives from the hospital will be coming to our school on November 22nd to accept the donations. They will also be doing a demonstration for the kids.

Looking ahead to next week:  As scientists, students will learn about natural resources, as well as, how people affect the environment.  As mathematicians, they will wrap up Topic 6 with an assessment.  We will be using the Envision curriculum for this unit, so please see the family letter below. As readers, students will learn about character traits.  As writers, they will revisit expository writing.

Looking ahead to the week of November 14 (Week B)

Students enjoyed the Mock Election Monday!  They loved sporting their "I voted" stickers.






Hi, families!  I hope you all have enjoyed your week and the extra hour this past weekend!

LIFESKILL of the week:  Courage - Encourage your child to celebrate ways of showing courage!

Impact Aid Forms:  Please complete and sign the green Impact Aid form going home in your child's communication folder Thursday.  Return these forms, as soon as possible!

LAPATHON:  An informational flyer will be going home with your child Thursday.  Please read over it and support our physical education program!

Quick Checks:  Students will be completing "Quick Checks" for each math lesson. They will get three attempts at each lesson's quick check, and the average of all quick checks will be taken as a classwork grade. Topic 5 will be a practice round, but we will be in full force for Topic 6. Students are encouraged to take their time, and if they miss a question or more, to go back and practice more problems before attempting again. This is a good way for students to monitor their progress and check for understanding.

Second "Being There Experience" payment reminder:  If you chose to pay for your child's field trips in two payments, please be sure to send in the second payment no later than Thursday, November 17.

Looking ahead to the week of November 7 (Week A)

Join us Friday, November 11, for a special Veterans Day program!





Hi, families!  It's great to be back with the kids!  I sure did miss them!

LIFESKILL of the week:  Organization - Encourage your child to celebrate ways of showing organization!

Report Cards:  Please be sure to sign and return the report card envelope.  You may keep the contents!

Quick Checks:  Students will be completing "Quick Checks" for each math lesson. They will get three attempts at each lesson's quick check, and the average of all quick checks will be taken as a classwork grade. Topic 5 will be a practice round, but we will be in full force for Topic 6. Students are encouraged to take their time, and if they miss a question or more, to go back and practice more problems before attempting again. Looking ahead to next week:  As historians, students will wrap up their unit of study on the Colonial Period.  They will kick off a new unit in science:  Earth's land/water features and soil! As mathematicians, they will continue to learn about patterns in multiplication.  We will be using the Envision curriculum for this unit, so please see the family letter below. As readers and writers, students will be taking what they learned about the Colonial Period, as well as, text features, to create informational picture books.  They will also have their first grade spelling word post-test.
