Looking ahead to the week of January 5

Students enjoyed a visit from Dr. Doug, the Sound Man!

Hello, families!  I hope you all are having a wonderful week!  I can't believe winter break is almost here... time flies by, when you're having fun!

Winter Celebration:  Students will enjoy our winter party Friday, December 19!  Ms. Jenkins, our homeroom representative, is working hard to prepare a special time for the kids.  Please take a moment to read her note about the ways you can help!  Thank you so much, in advance, for your donations... they make our celebration possible!  If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Jenkins - (803) 419-7029 or Cherishjnkns@yahoo.com

Looking ahead:  As mathematicians, students will revisit the relationship between multiplication and division.  Please check out our Topic 8 family letter, to help you better understand what students will be learning about after the break. We'll continue our multiplication quizzes when students return to school.  They will be tested on their 8s facts. During language arts, students will study idioms, homonyms, and homographs.  The children will continue working on cursive handwriting and opinion writing pieces.  As readers, they'll be introduced to their new reading response logs.  As scientists, students will kick off a new unit on rocks and minerals.

Save the date for a special PTO presentation:  Third grade will have a special presentation at our next PTO Meeting, January 26 at 7:00.  Please be on the look out for more information in January!

Updated class blog:  Please bookmark Mrs. Grosschmidt's class blog, "The Grosschmidt Gab."  You may visit it, while I'm away with my new baby, for updated information about class events, since we have the same class schedule.

One last note reminder:  Time is winding down, before the arrival of my first baby!  I can't believe it's almost here - December 24!  I wanted to pass along to you again that Mrs. Norris, who was a kindergarten teacher at Bookman, will be my long-term substitute.  She retired a few years ago, and some of you may remember her because you're child was in her class, or perhaps she was your child's long-term substitute last year.  I am so fortunate that she'll be joining the children, while I'm at home.  They will be in such wonderful, caring hands!  I want to thank you again for all of your support and enthusiasm, as I embark on this brand new adventure!  I appreciate your well wishes and love, more than you know!  I hope you all have a great Winter Break with your families!  Thank you again for everything that you do!  I'll see you in 2015!
