Looking ahead to the week of May 5

Dr. James, Mr. Reliford, and Mrs. O'Connor visited our classroom to see the wonderful Chromebook presentations the children created for our last PTO meeting!

Hi, families!  I hope you all enjoyed your weekend!

Looking ahead:  SCPASS testing will be here next week!  Students will continue reviewing what they've learned all year, in order to prepare for the big test!  They are being reminded each day that this test is not something to stress about, but to look at as their time to shine and show all they've learned this year!  It should be an exciting week!  Keep in mind, the children are welcome to take home their textbooks any day, as long as they bring them back the following day.  Using a textbook is a great way to study!  Please continue to encourage your child to practice his/her facts every day!  It is very important for students to have a great grasp on basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts!  Students will continue to have mixed operation quizzes throughout the rest of the school year.  They will wrap up their study of motion and take a vocabulary quiz Friday, May 2.  There will not be a study guide for this quiz.  Students will have a vocabulary grid to study.

Homework Heads-Up:  Students will not receive a new homework packet or reading log Friday, May 2. SCPASS testing is next week, so students will have a bit of a break.  The only homework they will have is to get a good night's rest and eat a healthy breakfast!

"Being There Experience" Reminder:  If you have not signed and returned your child's permission form for the State Museum, please do so, as soon as possible!  We will be visiting the State Museum Thursday, May 1.  No chaperones are needed, due to group numbers.  If you signed your child up to bring his/her lunch, please don't forget to send one in!

A note from Ms. Hart regarding SCPASS goodies:
Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are finally heading down the homestretch of our academic year.  Our students will take another round of PASS testing May 6th, 7th and 8th.  Like the last time, students will be provided breakfast, snacks and candy throughout each day.  Due to your overwhelming generosity during the last round of exams, we have all the juice boxes, candy and snacks needed for these days.  The only thing I could use would be donations towards a hot breakfast.

The last time, I was able to provide sausage biscuits each morning at a total cost of $28.  To do something similar would cost about $40, and I already have $5.  I am hoping to collect $35.

As usual, any little bit helps…whatever you can give is fine.  I can make whatever amount I collect work.

All donations should be sent in by May 2nd.

FYI...I collected a total of $61 this academic year.  On Dec 20th I used $27.45 towards pizza for the Holiday Party, and $28.39 for the previous round of PASS Testing.

Thank you,
Faith Hart

Interims:  Believe it or not, it's time for interims for the last nine weeks!  Time has flown by!  Students will receive their interim reports Thursday.  Please take a moment to review goals with your child.  The fourth nine weeks tends to be a bit rough, since we are on the downhill slide, but please remind your child of academic and behavior expectations.  Students do not have many grades in all subject areas, due to SCPASS review and Spring Break.  Please note:  Students will accumulate more grades as we continue with our curriculum and complete end of the year activities.

Thank you again for all that you do!  The children and I appreciate you more than you know!

Looking ahead to the week of April 7

The children enjoyed a lesson on E-books with Ms. Sease.  E-books is a great resource to read books (or listen to them) online.

Hello, families!  I hope you all are taking some time to enjoy the wonderful weather!  We hope it continues, so we can enjoy Field Day this Friday!

Looking ahead:  Students will kick off a unit on fractions next week (lesson 9-1 through 9-5).  They'll also begin reviewing for the SCPASS test in math.  Keep in mind, the children are welcome to take home their math textbook any day, as long as they bring it back the following day.  Using a textbook is a great way to study!  Please continue to encourage your child to practice his/her facts every day!  Students will continue to have mixed operation quizzes throughout the rest of the school year.  They will wrap up their study of the Reconstruction  era.  Students will not test on this unit.  However, they will be completing a booklet, which will serve as a test grade.  They will also begin studying the 19th and 20th centuries.  In reading, students will finish a study of literary parts and poetic elements.  The children will also begin reviewing for the SCPASS test in reading.

State House "Being There Experience" Lunch Reminder:  We'll be going to the State House Wednesday, April 2.  Be sure to send your child with a lunch/drink that day, if you chose that option on his/her permission form.  The Seaside Cafe will only have enough bagged lunches for those who signed up for a cafeteria lunch.

Field Day:  We will enjoy Field Day Friday, April 4!  The kids are welcome to bring a bottle of water with them, if they do not have a water bottle at school.  Please make sure your child dresses appropriately for the weather and wears tennis shoes!
