Looking ahead to the week of October 12

Students learned about science safety in Community!

Hi, families!  I hope you all stayed safe and dry this past week and that you enjoyed the extra time with your kids!

Two-Hour delay reminders:  Since we are on our two-hour delay this week, we will have some changes to our daily schedule.  We will now have lunch 11:38 - 12:03.  Students will go to SAIL 1:30 - 2:00, then enjoy a shortened recess 2:00 - 2:15.

Homework reminder:  Please remind students to turn in their homework, which would have been due today, on Monday, as well as their communication folder if they have not turned it in yet. There will not be another homework packet issued until October 26. It will be issued that Monday and be due that Friday (October 30). Please be flexible with us as many dates for tests, quizzes, and field trips will need to change.  Since there will be no homework packet the next two weeks, please encourage children to complete their study guides in a timely manner and study multiplication facts!

Blythewood Community Garden:  Our "Being There Experience" to the Blythewood Community Garden will now be a "Being HERE Experience."  Students will enjoy learning about plants from representatives from the garden next Monday!

Lexington County Museum:  Your child will receive a permission form for our next "Being There Experience" this Thursday in his/her communication folder.  It was meant to go home last week, but we are using flexibility!  Please sign and return this form no later than Wednesday, October 21.  We will need to turn in lunch numbers to Mrs. Mills in the cafeteria that day!  Students will be going on this field trip Friday, October 30.

Looking ahead:  In math, students will learn about time.  They will be using the Engage New York curriculum for this unit, instead of Envision.  Check out our Family Letter below.  As scientists, students wrap up their plant unit with a test next Monday.  As historians, the children will dive into their Native American unit to learn more about South Carolina's Native American nations.  In writing, students continue their narrative writing unit.  They will also learn about future-tense verbs, irregular verbs, and linking verbs.  As readers, the children will continue studying main idea.

Thank you again for your flexibility, understanding, and for all of the water bottle donations!  Have a great week!
