Looking ahead to the week of April 17 (Week A)

Students enjoyed Historic Columbia's Traveling Trunk Show!  They learned more about the Antebellum period, leading up to the Civil War.  The children played Antebellum games and experienced writing with quill pens.

Hi, families!  I hope you all had a wonderful week!

LIFESKILL of the week:  Sense of Humor - Encourage your child to celebrate ways of showing the LIFESKILL of sense of humor!

Communication folders and homework:  Communication folders will not be issued Thursday, April 6.  They will go home the Thursday after break.  Students will not receive a new homework packet again till Monday, April 17.  Please keep in mind, students will need to complete their Topic 16 math study guide, which is due Wednesday, April 19.  They received this study guide April 4.  Thank you for your flexibility!

Report cards:  Please take a moment to review your child's progress with him/her, as well as, the reflections made in the report card comments section.  Please sign and return the report card sleeve.  You may keep the report card.

Field Day:  Field Day is Friday, April 21!  Please be sure your child dresses comfortably and wears tennis shoes.  It's also a good idea for him/her to put sunscreen on before leaving home that day.  Students are welcome to bring a bottle of water, which they can carry outside with them during activities.  Please be sure to write your child's name on his/her water bottle.  Please understand that siblings cannot participate in Field Day activities with our class.  We encourage families to volunteer!  You may contact Mr. Schirmer for more details.

Looking ahead to the week after Spring Break:  As historians, students will learn about the Civil Rights movement.  They will not take a traditional unit test, since this unit is so short.  Students will complete a booklet for a grade.  Students will also enjoy another Traveling Trunk show, which will be centered on the Civil Rights movement in South Carolina.  As mathematicians, they will study bar graphs.  We will be using the Envision curriculum for this unit, so please see the family letter below.  As readers and writers, students will study elements of poetry and test-taking strategies.  They will also complete the writing field test Tuesday, April 18.

BRES Events:  Be sure to check out the rest of this year's events on the flyer below!  Mark your calendars!

Thank you again for all that you do!  Have a great Spring Break!
