Looking ahead to the week of October 17 (Week B)

Bookman Road is kicking off another great fundraising opportunity:  Walk for Life.  Students, who donate at least $1, will be able to wear school appropriate pajamas Wednesday, October 19.

Hi, families!  Happy long weekend to you all!

LIFESKILL of the week:  Friendship - Encourage your child to celebrate ways of showing friendship!

Walk for Life (A note from Ms. Mayer):  Hey Bookman Families and Friends!  Did you know that we have a Richland 2 Team set up to participate in the Palmetto Health Foundation Walk For Life on Saturday, October 22nd, 2016? We would love to have you join our team and walk with us! Or, feel free to donate even if you can't join.  Here is a link to register and instructions on how to join our team.  Thanks for your support!   Walk for Life

Multiplication fact quizzes:  Students have already taken their first multiplication quiz!  A letter about multiplication will go home in your child's communication folder Thursday, October 13.  Please go ahead and encourage your child to start memorizing multiplication facts!  A copy of a multiplication table went home in your Open House booklet at the beginning of the year and students have a copy in their homework packets each week.

A message from our PTO:  Hello Bookman Parents and Families!  Our T-Shirt sale and first Beacon Spirit day were a huge success! Thank you for your continued support!  T-Shirts were distributed on September 28th, but it has come to our attention that a few students did not receive their order.  If you purchased a T shirt(s) and did not receive your order please contact Lily Park at lilypark212@gmail.com as soon as possible.

Kindness Rocks (from Mrs. Spangler):  Our guidance counselor, Mrs. Spangler, would love for you to check out this great site about kindness and kids-  Kindness Rocks

A reminder from our administrators:  In an effort to start quality teaching and learning at 7:50, we encourage families to allow students to walk to class independently.  If you'd like to discuss concerns with your child's teacher, please contact her by phone or email, so you are able to confidentially discuss concerns before 7:50 or after 3:15

Looking ahead to next week:  As historians, students will wrap up their study on Native Americans and begin looking at European exploration. As mathematicians, they will learn about telling time and elapsed time.  We will be using the Engage New York curriculum for this unit, so please see the family letter below. In reading, students will take a look at Native American legends and determine the theme of those legends.  As writers, they will be introduced to text-dependent analysis, which will coincide with the legends they will be reading.  They will also learn about adjectives and adverbs that compare.

Thank you again for all of your support!  Have a great week!
