Looking ahead to the week of Oct. 1 (2nd PE)

Students enjoyed Mr. Bowers playing "Happy birthday" on the piano to one of our birthday friends last week!

Hello, families!

LIFESKILL of the week:  The LIFESKILL of the week is cooperation!  Discuss examples of responsibility with your child and celebrate moments of using this LIFESKILL while at school, home and out and about in the community.

Blinky's Buddy snacks:  As you begin sending in Blinky's Buddy snacks (if you choose), please keep in mind that we have 19 students in our class.  We also have students with peanut allergies.

Half day:  Friday, September 28, is a half day for students.  Lunch will be served.  Please be sure to send a note if your child's transportation changes.

Cici's Pizza Night:  Mrs. West will be at our school's "Cici's Pizza Night," from 5:30 to 6:30!  Hope to see you there!

United Way campaign:  Our school is wrapping up its United Way campaign!  This money will go toward a "Pie in the Face" competition between some familiar BRES faces!  The donations for "Pie in the Face" will be collected through September 27.  Students are also welcome to donate $1 to our classroom envelope by September 28, in order to wear school-appropriate pajamas September 28.  Shoes will be required.  Thank you for your donations!

Envision textbooks:  If you would like to keep your child's Envision textbook at home till the end of the school year, please let me know.  The children only use their workbook in class, but the textbook may be used as a resource when reviewing with your child at home.  Just send me an email and I'll pull your child's book!  You can always access your child's textbook online, using the information sent home last Friday, along with your child's password sheet.

Looking ahead to next week:  As scientists, students will wrap up their animal unit by studying habitat changes and animal adaptations.  They will also begin a plant unit.  As mathematicians, the children will revisit addition and subtraction algorithms.  Be sure to check out our Topic 3 family letter below.  In reading, students continue breaking down CLOSE reading articles, using the TWISTS (title, words, illustrations, sentences, thinking, and summarizing) model.  As writers, they will learn about parts of speech through a mentor sentence, as well as, narrative elements in our writing unit.

Who read the blog?:  Thank you so much for taking a moment to check out our class blog!  Please send me a smiley face in the subject line, if you have read it!  I encourage the kids to read over it each week with you, too!  I appreciate you staying informed!

Thank you again for all of your support and enthusiasm!  Have a wonderful weekend!
