Looking ahead to the week of January 21 (2nd PE)

Students are enjoying studying rocks and minerals through several hands-on experiments.  They're learned a lot about their properties!

Welcome, Ms. Heard!  Our student teacher, from Newberry College, started this week!  We are so happy to have her!

Hi, families!

Half day:  Students have a half day Friday, January 18.  If your child's transportation changes, please be sure to send a note!  Also, lunch will be served.

State House permission form:  Please be on the look out for your child's State House permission form going home in this week's communication folder.  Please complete the front and back sides.  It's due by January 31.  Our trip is scheduled for Monday, February 11.  Chaperones are not needed for this trip, due to the number limit on our tours.

Timed multiplication quizzes:  In order to increase students' fluency in multiplication, they will start having timed mixed multiplication quizzes the week of February 4.  It's important students continue practicing their facts at home!

A note from our new student teacher, Ms. Heard:
Hello! My name is Ms. Heard and I am a Newberry College senior. I am majoring in Elementary Education and completing my degree with student teaching with Mrs. West. I am from Yorktown, Virginia and plan on moving to South Carolina to teach following graduation in May. When I am not busy with school work, I LOVE to watch baseball! I am a huge Red Sox fan and go to all of Newberry's home baseball games. I also love to travel, cook, bake, and play with my dog. I am looking forward to a great next few months here at Bookman Road Elementary School!

PTO presentation:  Students will be singing Monday, January 28.  Students may be dropped off in the music room at 5:45.  They are asked to wear jeans and a white shirt.  They're also welcome to bring sunglasses to wear during one of the songs.

PTO songs:  Please check out these links, so students can continue practicing their songs for our PTO presentation!

Looking ahead to next week:  As scientists, students will wrap up their rocks and minerals unit.  As mathematicians, they will continue learning about fractions.  We will be using the Engage New York curriculum for this unit, so please see the family letter below.   As readers, the children will study first and third person points of view.   As writers, they will revisit conjunctions and compound sentences through a mentor sentence.

Thank you again for all of your support!
