Week of February 18

Hello, families!  I hope you all have enjoyed your week so far!

In your child's communication folder this week, you will find our next "Being There Experience" permission form.  We will be heading to Cowpens to learn all about the battle site and its part in the American Revolution.  It is VERY important that you complete the form and return it to school as soon as possible!  Our trip is less than three weeks away!

Valentines Day:  Please remember your child is welcome to send in a Valentine card for every classmate.  Please do not send in candy.

Munchies for Moms will be taking place this Thursday, February 14, in our school cafe, 7:30 - 8:00.  Please park in the back lot, if you would like to join your child for a morning treat!

Cookies!  Please continue to encourage your child to sell cookies for our fundraiser.  The money will go toward UV shades on our playground and a brand new school marquee.  The fundraiser ends on February 21.

Let's get moving!  Students are encouraged to fill out their Active Gamecock forms each day through February 25.  We ask students to jot down their 30 minutes of daily exercise (or more!).  Students who complete a log will receive free tickets to a USC softball and baseball game.

Stuffed with Love:  We are still collecting one new or gently used stuffed animal, as our grade-level charity.  These stuffed animals will be donated to the children at Sister Care.  The charity ends February 28.

Family Fun Night:  If you would still like to donate money toward our Family Fun Night basket, it would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you, Mrs. Dotson, for putting it together!

Looking ahead:  Students will continue to learn about fractions and how to model them in several ways.  They will wrap up their unit on poetry in reading and test on Wednesday, February 20 (a study guide will be sent home on Thursday, February 14).  As writers, students will continue to prepare for their first PASS test, which is less than 25 school days away!  Students will also wrap up our government unit of study and test on Friday, February 22 (a study guide will be sent home on Thursday, February 14).

Please continue to have your child practice his/her multiplication facts on a daily basis.  Students need to be able to correctly answer multiplication questions in a very short amount of time, as this will prepare them more for the upper grades.

Please also take a moment to chat with your child about the choices he/she makes in school, both academically and behaviorally.  This can be an "antsy" time in the school year.

Thank you again for all of your support and enthusiasm!  Please know that it means more to us than you know!  Have a wonderful rest of the week and stay warm this long weekend!

Check out some wonderful moments from our most recent "Being There Experience" to the Lexington County Museum.  We had a blast learning about colonial life in South Carolina.  Thank you again to Mrs. Armstrong, Ms. Butler and Nurse Johnson for chaperoning!
