Week of April 29

Hello, families!

Thank you all for joining us for the kids' PTO performance Monday night!  They were so excited!  They hope you learned a bit more about Earth Day and the importance of taking care of our great state.

Looking ahead:  Students will be wrapping up their last two social studies units of the year!  They will study changes in the 19th and 20th centuries.  Students will not be tested on those units.  As scientists, they will wrap up their study of heat and matter with a test on Tuesday, April 30.  They will also be exploring the world of motion and have a vocabulary test on motion on Thursday, May 2.  As readers and mathematicians, students will review all of the skills and strategies they have learned this year in preparation for PASS testing, which will be the week of May 6.

Our very last "Being There Experience" is Thursday, May 2.  Students will be reviewing much of the material they have learned about South Carolina at the State Museum.  There are no chaperones for this trip.  Please make sure your child brings his/her lunch on May 2, if that is the option you chose on the permission form.

PASS TESTING INFORMATION:
The second round of PASS testing is coming up!  PASS testing will begin Tuesday, May 7.  Please be sure your child gets plenty of rest and has a great morning each day of testing!  We will have a small breakfast item and snack each day of testing, but please make sure your child gets a nutritious breakfast before coming to class!  We will begin testing as close to 8:30 a.m. as possible, so please have your child here on time. Be sure not to schedule appointments on PASS testing dates.

The testing schedule is as follows:

May 7 - English Language Arts
May 8 - Math
May 9 - Science OR Social Studies (we will not know until May 9)

We have worked hard all year and are very prepared for testing.  It is a very important test so students will be encouraged to do their best by putting forth personal best effort.  It is their time to shine and show all they've learned!

THERE WILL BE NO HOMEWORK THE WEEK OF PASS, OTHER THAN TO READ EACH NIGHT (no reading log), GET A GOOD NIGHT’S REST AND TO COME IN ON TIME WITH A GOOD ATTITUDE AND THINKING CAPS ON!

Students will not have quizzes or tests the week of PASS testing, either.

Again if at all possible, please have your child here on the testing days so they do not have to be pulled out and given the test separately.

Report cards were sent home a couple of weeks ago.  Please review the report card with your child and discuss academic and behavior goals for the last nine weeks, if you have not done so already.  You will need to sign and return only the report card cover.  You may keep the report card!

I hope you all have a happy weekend and enjoy time with your family!  Thank you again for your never-ending support!

Check out some snapshots of our time spent with Fossil Frank!  We learned all about his fossils found right here, in South Carolina!  Students were able to do a little digging of their own and keep the fossils they found!  Way to go, third grade paleontologists!
