Looking ahead to the week of May 18

Tim Lowry, a storyteller, visited our school Wednesday to share some of his famous South Carolina tales!

Hi, families!  I hope you all had a great weekend!

Achoo!  Help!  We need more tissues for our classroom.  If you are able to donate a box of tissues or two, we'd greatly appreciate it!  

State Museum field study:  Students will be visiting the State Museum Thursday, May 14.  Please make sure your child wears comfortable shoes.  Be sure to send a lunch with your child, if that is the option you chose on his/her permission form.

State House field study:  Students will be visiting the State Museum Tuesday, May 19, to make up for the trip they missed in February, due to the two-hour delay.  Please make sure your child wears comfortable shoes.  Be sure to send a lunch with your child, if that is the option you chose on his/her permission form.

Looking ahead:  As mathematicians, students will continue their Step-up to Fourth Grade unit.  They'll get s sneak peek at fourth grade concepts.  We'll continue our mixed operation quizzes.  In reading and language arts, students will continue working on their expert projects.  As scientists, students will take a look at some standards they'll be learning about in fourth grade.  They'll focus on the solar system and moon phases.  They'll research and create about their favorite planet.

Calling all cardboard boxes, packing tape, and other random items from around your house:  In the last few weeks of school, the children will have the opportunity to be innovative and inventive by creating their own cardboard arcade game, which was inspired by a nine-year old boy in California named Caine.  He created his own cardboard arcade, which has since become world-famous and inspired kids around the world to do the same!  An "Innovative Kid" scholarship has even been set up for children, who use their imagination to create something wonderful for the world.  Students will apply measurement concepts and their LIFESKILL of creativity to make something great.  We can only do this project though, if we have enough supplies.  If you have cardboard boxes (no matter how big or how small), packing tape, or any other random objects, which no longer have a place in your home, please begin sending them in!  Check out a short movie that was made about Caine's accomplishment! Caine's Arcade

Media Center alert:  The Media Center will close its doors for the school year Friday, May 22.  Students must return any books that day.  If books are not returned or they are damaged, students will be notified of any charges.  

A note from the school nurse:  Medications are not kept in the health room over the summer.  Please pick up all over-the-counter and prescription medications (inhalers, Epi-pens, other prescription medications) from the health room by the end of the year.  Any medications left after will be discarded.
