Looking ahead to the week of February 3

Students have been studying rocks and minerals through our hands-on FOSS kits.  These geologists have been learning all about the properties of these earth materials.

Hello, families!  I hope you are staying safe and warm!

Looking ahead:  The children will continue their unit on division in math (lessons 8-8 through 8-9).  They will wrap up learning about multiplication and division fact families.  Please continue to encourage your child to practice his/her facts every day, as this will help him/her with division!  Students will quiz on their 12s multiplication facts Tuesday.  Students will also receive a study guide this Thursday for their math test.  It will be due Thursday, February 6.  Students will test Friday, February 7.  As historians, students will kick off a new unit in social studies.  They will be introduced to the causes of the American Revolution. In reading, students will be introduced to their American Revolution biographies. They will study adjectives and adverbs. Students will also begin preparing for the PASS writing test.
*Dates are subject to change, based on snow days.

Active Gamecock logs:  Students are encouraged to participate in our Active Gamecock program, which promotes physical activity.  Students should have started filling them out Monday, January 20.  They are due February 4.  Mr. Schirmer has set a goal:  If  165 students and 20 staff members complete their logs, then he will make healthy smoothies for everyone in our school!  Please encourage your child to enjoy some physical activity!

Valentines Day:  The school has decided classes will not pass out Valentines or treats.  If your child would like to pass out Valentines, it must be done outside of school. Thank you for helping us follow this procedure!

BookMEN: The 100th day of school is Thursday, but we'll be celebrating it Friday, January 31.  We are aiming to have 100 BookMEN visit our school Friday!  We encourage you to come and each lunch with your third grader!

Report Cards:  Please be sure to sign and return your child's report card cover, as soon as possible!  You may keep the report card.

I hope you all have wonderful week!  Stay warm!  Thank you again for all of your support!
