Looking ahead to the week of January 27

Students enjoyed spending time with their second grade Book Buddies last week!  It's always a great time to collaborate and share their favorite stories.

Hello, families!  I hope you all enjoyed your long-weekend with your sweet kids!

Looking ahead:  The children will continue their unit on division in math (lesson 8-4 through 8-7).  They will learn about multiplication and division fact families.  Please continue to encourage your child to practice his/her facts every day, as this will help him/her with division!  Students will quiz on their 11s multiplication facts Tuesday.  As scientists, students will learn about the properties of rocks through various hands-on experiences (FOSS kits).  They will review for their science test Thursday, January 30 (a study guide will be sent home Thursday, January 23).  Students will test Friday, January 31, on rocks and minerals.  In reading, students will wrap up studying point of view and working on differentiated texts in small groups.  As writers, the children will continue revisiting the parts of speech and expository writing.  They will also continue learning cursive handwriting.  Students will have their third grade high-frequency spelling word post-assessment Wednesday, January 29.

Active Gamecock logs:  Students are encouraged to participate in our Active Gamecock program, which promotes physical activity.  The logs went home in last week's communication folders and students should have started filling them out Monday, January 20.  They are due February 4.  Mr. Schirmer has set a goal:  If  165 students and 20 staff members complete their logs, then he will make healthy smoothies for everyone in our school!  Please encourage your child to enjoy some physical activity!

Valentines Day:  Students will not have school February 14.  The school has decided classes will not pass out Valentines or treats.  If your child would like to pass out Valentines, it must be done outside of school. Thank you for helping us follow this procedure!

I hope you all have wonderful week!  Thank you again for all of your support!
