Looking ahead to the week of January 13

Check out some snapshots of our Winter Celebration!  Thank you again for all of your donations. Thanks to Ms. Hart for organizing the event, too.  The kids had a blast!

Happy New Year, families!  I hope you all had wonderful break with your kids!  It is so nice to be back at school, though!  I want to thank you again for all of your donations for our class party!  It was a great success.  Special thanks to Ms. Hart, Ms. Walker, Ms. Tucker and Ms. Kannaday for helping out!  Thank you so much for the sweet winter gifts and notes, too!  They were greatly appreciated!

Looking ahead:  The children will continue a unit on division in math (lesson 7-4 through 7-6).  They will review Wednesday, January 15 (a study guide will be sent home Wednesday, January 8), and test Friday, January 17.  Please continue to encourage your child to practice his/her facts every day, as this will help him/her with division!  Students will quiz on their 9s multiplication facts Tuesday.  As scientists, students will learn about the properties of rocks through various hands-on experiences (FOSS kits).  In reading, students will be reminded they are responsible for completing their new logs each week (They no longer have to fill out their old logs at home).  Students will also be studying point of view and working on differentiated texts in small groups.  As writers, the children will continue revisiting the parts of speech and expository writing.  They will also continue learning cursive handwriting.

A note from the third grade teachers regarding birthday/party invitations:  We've had several incidents, where students have passed out invitations on the playground or in class to select students.  Out of fairness to others, we ask that if you have birthday/party invitations, you give them to your child's teacher (they will need to be given to her well in advance of when you are asking for them to be distributed).  If you do so, please make sure there is one for every student in your child's homeroom class.  Also, if you have invitations for students in other classes (or only a few students in your child's homeroom class), we ask that you pass those along, outside of school (through the mail or by other means), to avoid hurting others' feelings.  Thank you for supporting our new procedure and for your understanding!

I hope you all have a great week!  Thank you again for all of your support!
