Looking ahead to the week of October 13

Hello, families!  I hope you all are having a wonderful week!

"Being There Experience" payment plan:  In your child's communication folder last week, you found a "Being There Experience" payment letter.  Please read over this letter carefully, then sign and return it, as soon as possible.  The first payment (or full payment) is due Thursday, October 9.

Off to the Lexington County Museum:  Please sign and return the permission form that went home in your child's communication folder for the Lexington County Museum trip, as soon as possible.

Looking ahead:  As mathematicians, students take their mid-module test Tuesday, after reviewing their study guide Monday.  They'll be studying Module 2 -Topic B, Lesson 13, which will center on rounding two and three digit numbers to the nearest 10 on a vertical number line.  Remember, you can check out the Engage New York links at the bottom of our class blog, for more information about your child's math curriculum (Family Newsletter for Module 2, Topic C). During language arts, students will take a sentence writing and spelling inventory, required by the District.  This assessment will not be graded.  The children will also learn about concrete and abstract nouns.  Students will create a conclusion sentence for their animal research paragraphs and begin working on a Google Presentation.  As historians, students will kick off their study of Native Americans.  They'll also enjoy their next "Being There Experience" to the Lexington County Museum, to learn more about Native American nations in South Carolina.

An opportunity to donate:  Please feel free to share the following site with family, friends, or members of the community, if they would like to donate items to our class!  We'll periodically add to this site throughout the year for items needed in our classroom.  You can search for Bookman Road Elementary, Mrs. West's class to find out more!  CrowdED Donations

I hope you all have a great rest of the week and a wonderful weekend!  Be sure to check out some snapshots below of our trip to the zoo!

Students enjoyed their first "Being There Experience" at Riverbanks Zoo.  After touring the zoo, they enjoyed a class all about adaptations.  A special thanks to Ms. Boykin and Ms. Eastman for chaperoning our trip!
