Looking ahead to the week of February 13 (Week A)

Students enjoyed their visit to the State House!  They were able to see where the legislative and executive branches meet to discuss laws.

Hi, families! I hope you all had a great week!

LIFESKILL of the week:  Problem Solving - Encourage your child to celebrate ways of showing the LIFESKILL of problem solving!

Half-day:  Students will have a half day Friday, February 17.  They will be served lunch, then dismiss at 11:30.  If your child's mode of transportation changes, please be sure to send a note or call the front office.

Responsibility:  Since we are half way through the third nine weeks, students will no longer be reminded to turn in assignments.  They will be responsible for following procedures and turning in assignments, in a timely manner.  Assignments that are not turned in will be marked "missing" in PowerSchool.  They are on the down hill slope to fourth grade, so we are hoping to better prepare them for the expectations in the upper grades.

Valentine's Day:  As you know, Valentine's Day is Tuesday, February 14.  Since we only have two celebrations a year (winter and end-of-the-year), we will not have a party.  Students may bring in Valentine's Day cards for each of their classmates (but it's not a requirement!).  We have 17 students in our class.  Please do not write a name in the "to" section on the card.  Doing so, allows us to pass out the cards in a more efficient manner.  Also, please do not send in any unhealthy items.  You can review our Health Committee recommendations for healthy snacks on our school's web site.

A letter from Pre-K:

Looking ahead to next week:  As scientists, students will learn about sources of heat, conductors and insulators, as well as, how heat can change states of matter.  As mathematicians, they will wrap up the second half of our fraction module.  We will be using the Engage New York curriculum for this unit, so please see the family letter below.  As readers, students will study text themes.  As writers, they will continue working on text-dependent analysis, as well as, synonyms, antonyms, and homophones.

Thank you again for all of your support!  Have a great weekend!
